Happy Birthday Grandpa!! :)

Today is Grandpa Ray's birthday! He would be 116 today if he were still around!

For the past couple of years, I thought it would be fun to start a family blog where we could post our memories about Grandma and Grandpa. So today in honor of Grandpa's birthday, I finally did it!!!

I loved how Grandpa would always greet us at the door with a HUGE SMILE and a BIG KISS when we'd come to visit him!

I loved how Grandpa would always be whistling a tune! Reminds me of the song, "Whistle While You Work!"

I love how Grandpa was always such a good example to us all!! :)

When I was little I always loved it when he would invite me into the kitchen at his house and offer me some goodies from his special goodie drawer!! The petrified marshmallows were some of my favorites!! :) Of course the licorice too...I like black best! :)

I loved all the big parties we would have to celebrate Grandpa's birthday! It was always fun to hang out with the family! I think one of my favorite birthday party memories was the year we let all those helium balloons go from the roof of Friendship Manor!

I still like to celebrate Grandpa's birthday each year! The week of Grandpa's birthday, I get some special treats for my family! The special treats are powdered doughnuts and black cherry floats!! :)

  1. What a great idea, one of the tunes that pops into my head every now and then is "Shine Your Boots," and it always reminds me of great grandpa Alston singing at the cabin. Happy birthday Grandpa Alston, we miss you and Great Grandma! :)

  2. Grandpa Ray,

Some of my favorite memories of Grandpa and Grandma, the helium balloon birthday tops it all! I loved filling up the balloons on top of the roof, it was the first time I'd ever been up on top of a roof. And I remember a few days later someone had found a balloon, and called grandpa to wish him a happy Birthday! I love you Grandma & Grandpa!

  3. I love the blog! My favorite birthday memory of Great Grandpa Alston was from his 100th birthday party. I was amazed at the way he stood there talking to everyone. When I came over we were talking and he told me a story about when he played football in High School! I was so amazed at his memory and the way he described playing football back them. I always felt better after being around him.
