Happy Birthday Grandma! Grandma would be 111 this year! :)
As I've been thinking about Grandma this week, I realized that most of the things I know about her or learned from her I learned while sitting next to her on her couch each Sunday!
For as long as I can remember, my special spot was next to Grandma on her couch! Week after week, year after year, until I got married that is where I'd sit.
Some of the things I learned were SUPER HOT WATER is great to soothe that nagging cough! "A wise old owl sat in the oak, the more he saw the less spoke, the less he spoke the more he heard, imitate that wise old bird!" Chocolate and coconut go great together...which is a Southwick trait!! The family feud over which color of licorice is best will never end. :) Personally I like black! :)
Grandma always tried to teach me not to procrastinate and a job should be well done! Grandma's hands were always busy making something! She taught me how to knit and to crochet! :) I even knit my own scarf when I was little, with her guidance! :)
I heard plenty of funny stories over the years...and learned that Grandma had quite the spunky spirit! Sweet Grandma!!!
I will always treasure those special hours sitting by her side!! :)

Happy Birthday Grandpa!! :)
Today is Grandpa Ray's birthday! He would be 116 today if he were still around!
For the past couple of years, I thought it would be fun to start a family blog where we could post our memories about Grandma and Grandpa. So today in honor of Grandpa's birthday, I finally did it!!!
I loved how Grandpa would always greet us at the door with a HUGE SMILE and a BIG KISS when we'd come to visit him!
I loved how Grandpa would always be whistling a tune! Reminds me of the song, "Whistle While You Work!"
I love how Grandpa was always such a good example to us all!! :)
When I was little I always loved it when he would invite me into the kitchen at his house and offer me some goodies from his special goodie drawer!! The petrified marshmallows were some of my favorites!! :) Of course the licorice too...I like black best! :)
I loved all the big parties we would have to celebrate Grandpa's birthday! It was always fun to hang out with the family! I think one of my favorite birthday party memories was the year we let all those helium balloons go from the roof of Friendship Manor!
I still like to celebrate Grandpa's birthday each year! The week of Grandpa's birthday, I get some special treats for my family! The special treats are powdered doughnuts and black cherry floats!! :)
